Care instructions for nectar
Still working on pages but be sure to read the jokes. That was my husbands favorite part of the website
remember always use cane sugar is the key .. look for it written on the bag “cane sugar” If it doesn’t say it ..it is usually sugar beet and well they don’t like it as well .. I say they spit out if they have a choice. it’s simple to make your own nectar.
Here’s how to make the nector ..it’s 1 to 4 ratio. So a 1/4 cup of sugar to 1 cup water. Always heat the nector to disovle the nector. I make gallons at a time. So I put 4 cups water in microwave run 4 minutes then when hot add 4 cups sugar. Stir wel..l wait a couple minutes till it is completely dissolved and then will become a clear amber color. It is now a concentrate.. I pour it into an empty gallon jug then add cold water to it to finish filling the gallon and shake it well.
Then choose your feeder ..all are good choices.. pick one you will enjoy .. some feeders though are easier to clean or fill .. make sure you must clean the feeder every 3 to 4 days..if they drank it or not ..with fresh nectar

Enough Nectar to feed about 850 average-sized hummingbirds a day!
(Orioles and other bird that might spill or drink some nectar not included)
➖ A hummingbird will drink about 12 time its body weight in nectar every day. ( Saturation: 4 parts water to 1 part sugar).
➖ Average Black-chinned Hummingbird weight = 3.2 gram ( Assuming that this is an average hummingbird at the feeders).
➖ Grams in 1 oz. of water = 28.3 grams.
➖ Ounces in 9 gallons of nectar =1152 oz.
12 x 3.2 = 38.4 grams of nectar per day per hummingbird.
38.4 grams ÷ 28.3 grams = 1.36 oz. of nectar consumed per day per hummingbird.
1152 oz. ÷ 1.36 oz./bird = 847 hummingbirds would consume 9 gallons of nectar per day.
